U.S. health authorities are investigating an outbreak of E. coli linked to organic frozen blueberries, leading to an expanded recall of affected frozen fruit products.
According to health officials, 17 people have been infected with E. coli O145, with six hospitalizations reported. No deaths have been reported.
As part of the investigation, the recall has been expanded to include a lot of Great Value Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend distributed to Walmart stores across 16 states.
Consumers Urged to Check Their Freezers
Because frozen fruit can remain in household freezers for months, recalled products may still be in consumers’ homes even if they are no longer available in stores.
Consumers are advised to check their freezers carefully and not consume any products included in the recall. Affected products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase in accordance with official recall guidance.
Symptoms of E. coli Infection
E. coli infection can cause symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody, vomiting, and sometimes fever.
