Health ministers from the 47 Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region have gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the Seventy-sixth Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa. The meeting brings together health leaders, senior government officials, development partners, and technical experts to discuss priorities that could shape healthcare across the continent.
Key areas under discussion include sustainable health financing, the Africa Health Workforce Agenda 2026–2035, regulation of medical products, emergency preparedness, health data, and digital transformation.
Digital Health and Better Use of Data
One important area of discussion is how Africa can make better use of health information and digital technologies.
The Regional Committee is considering a Regional Health Data Hub designed to help countries detect health threats earlier, allocate resources more effectively, and make better-informed healthcare decisions.
The broader Vision 2035 framework also identifies digital transformation, stronger primary healthcare, resilient health systems, sustainable financing, and greater country ownership as important components of Africa’s future health strategy.

Africa’s healthcare systems continue to face challenges ranging from workforce shortages and limited resources to disease outbreaks and gaps in health information.
